Fellos raises €4.2 million, with €3 million from the Dutch Dragons

Healthcare technology company Mila Health, the parent company behind the consumer brands Fellos and Goodweigh, has raised €4.2 million in a funding round. Of this, €3 million comes from the Dutch Dragons, who announced the round during their podcast. Mila Health will use the capital to accelerate the development of its digital healthcare platform and its expansion across Europe.

Two years ago, founders Sibren Tolsma and Rob Smeitink set out with a single idea: to give people more control over their own health by making high-quality care simpler and more accessible. Mila Health has now helped over 30,000 patients through Fellos and Goodweigh, has more than 40 healthcare providers working on the treatments, and operates in the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

A growth curve that even surprised the Dragons

Growth was much faster than initially anticipated. Whereas Mila Health was helping around 10,000 patients a year ago, the figure now stands at over 30,000. During the same period, the company expanded from the Netherlands into four European markets and its healthcare team grew to more than 40 healthcare professionals. Behind the investment are Dutch Dragons Bas Witvoet, Pieter Schoen and Michel Perridon.

The Dragons aren’t investing solely for financial reasons. “As well as generating a good return, you’re investing in good healthcare. And I think that’s just as important,” says the investor.

Care as the core, not an afterthought

Mila Health deliberately focuses on conditions that lend themselves well to fully online care. Patients start by completing a medical intake form, drawn up in consultation with doctors and pharmacists, after which their identity is verified and a doctor assesses and supervises their treatment.

It is precisely this guidance that sets the platform apart from the illegal or unregulated channels from which many people currently source their medication, with all the associated health risks.

What Mila Health plans to do with the funding

With this investment, Mila Health is accelerating the technical development of its healthcare platform. A significant portion of the capital will go towards improving the digital infrastructure. In addition, Goodweigh and Fellos are expanding their services into new areas of care, such as transitional care, and continuing their growth across Europe. The quality of care remains the guiding principle behind this acceleration. Mila Health is making a deliberate investment in ensuring its care team and support services grow in line with patient numbers, so that even as the organisation scales up rapidly, careful medical supervision and personal contact remain paramount.

Funding round fully subscribed within two days

There was considerable interest in the funding round. Dutch Dragons invested €300,000 themselves and made the remaining portion of the €3 million available to other investors via their own funding platform. The Dragons indicated that they would prefer to fund the round entirely themselves, and undertook to cover at least the portion not filled by investors. This proved unnecessary: the full €3 million was raised within two days.

The fact that the amount was raised so quickly is a sign of the confidence investors have in both Mila Health’s growth story and its social value.
