What is premature ejaculation?
Premature ejaculation (PE) or premature ejaculation means:
- Ejaculate in less than 1 minute after the start of penetration or masturbation; and
- You have no control over ejaculation.
Premature ejaculation is more common in young men than in older men, but it also occurs regularly there. According to research, 1 in 3 men will experience premature ejaculation at some point in their lives.

The exact cause of premature ejaculation is unknown, but there are several factors that are known to have an influence..

How can you delay ejaculation?
There are three proven ways to last longer:
- Dapoxetine (Priligy): a tablet taken 1 to 3 hours before sex. It increases serotonin levels in the brain and has been shown to delay ejaculation.
- EMLA cream (lidocaine): a numbing cream applied 15 to 30 minutes before sex.

How does dapoxetine (Priligy) work?
Dapoxetine is a short-acting SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), specifically developed for premature ejaculation. Priligy is the best-known brand name.

- Take 1 to 3 hours before sex
- Extends the time to ejaculation by a factor of 3 to 4

What is the difference between Priligy (dapoxetine) and EMLA cream (lidocaine)?
Both help with premature ejaculation, but work in completely different ways:

- EMLA: cream, works locally by temporarily numbing the penis
